What to ask on any quote
Whatever the job, these are the things a solid written quote should make clear. Worth checking before you sign anything:
- Is a permit included, and who pulls it?
- Is there a written warranty — and does it cover both parts and labour?
- Is the work itemised, or just one lump sum?
- Is the contractor licensed and insured? Verify it with your state or local authority.
- Is the deposit reasonable (a third or less is typical) and never cash-only?
- Are the old materials removed and hauled away, and the site left clean?
- Get 2-3 written quotes for the same work, so you can compare them yourself.
